In early Spring of 2018, we planted a mix of some 50 native Irish species on the lower swarth of the allotment landholding. In just 18 months, these 30cm bare-root saplings have risen to 6ft. A successful pilot programme for our biodiversity plan, our ambition now is to plant over 200-300 trees on February 15th 2020 and we’d love your help in planting up the allocated area beyond the entrance gate on the approach to Glencullen allotments. We’ve ordered a mix of hazel, hawthorn, holly, oak, alder, birch, rowan, dog rose, crab apple, pear, plum and eating apple trees from Trees on the Land, in association with Green Economy Foundation in collaboration with The Woodland Trust.
Volunteer by signing the sheet in the allotment clubhouse, or just turn up on the day. Many hands make light work, and it’s going to be a good day’s work for many a year to come.
